I want to be very clear from that our next cycle is for EVERYONE! If you’re planning on participating in The Open, awesome! Our next cycle will get you fitter. If you have no intention of participating in The Open, no worries. Our next cycle will STILL get you fitter. If you have no clue what “The Open is then you’re in for a treat! The Open is one of the best community events of the year. It’s an opportunity for all of our members to get together at our different locations and push each other towards personal records never thought possible. If you’re hesitant about participating I strongly recommend taking the leap.
Leading into this next cycle I wanted to put together a little write up regarding what athletes can expect to see over the coming weeks.
Our “Open Prep Cycle”(as I’m calling it) will last through the end of The Open (March 28th). This means our cycle will be roughly twelve weeks in length. Over the course of the cycle we’ll be focusing our efforts on a couple key categories…
- Muscular Endurance
- So much about what we know of The Open is simply about “hanging on.” Completing those last couple repetitions in a workout when it hurts the most. We’ll be eliciting this response in a number of different ways but expect to be pushed past what you thought you were capable of completing (this is how you get FITTER!).
- Strength Training while Fatigued
- This is a “relatively” new concept that has presented itself in The Open but is something that I expect we’ll continue to see in years to come. Last year we were asked to hit a one rep max clean and jerk IMMEDIATELY after a tough workout; what will this year bring… During our Open Prep Cycle expect to do some “fun and interesting” components regarding our strength training!
- Simple is Deadly!
- You don’t need crazy complex workouts to get fitter. That’s the beauty of The Open, the workouts are simple… but oftentimes deadly. During our Open Prep Cycle we’re bringing things back to the basics! Expect to see workouts that read simple on paper but make you question why you ever started CrossFit mid workout…
This is a small snapshot of some of the focuses during the next twelve weeks but I wanted to give some context as we shift gears this upcoming week. Looking forward to seeing all the #gainz during this cycle!
